Las Vegas – January 3, 2013 Swing Dancing in Las Vegas is alive and well and led by a group of dancers with a big vision. Within a period of two years, the social dance scene has grown from one night a week to include a monthly event at the historic Knights of Columbus Hall and a weekly event at the House of Blues.
Aruba Swings is supported by the Swing Dance Vegas organization and offers beginning and intermediate lessons and social dancing at the Thunderbird Lounge located at the Aruba Hotel and Spa. Classes begin at 7 PM with social dancing from 8 PM to 1 AM, the end time depends on other scheduled events. Please note that dancing is held in the lounge area and restricted to dancers who are 21 and older. The site also serves as the calendar for dance events, including West Coast Swing, across the Las Vegas Valley. For more information about Aruba Swings visit www.SwingDanceVegas.com.
The second Saturday of the month there will be approximately 70 dancers at the Knights of Columbus Hall, located Downtown at the corner of Ogden and 10th. This is the location of Saturday Night Stomp, a monthly event produced by Shannon Sheldon, Kyle Kettner and Kina Foster Theivagt. The thought was to mimic a popular dance event held in Santa Monica, California, and it’s proven has been successful over the past two years.
Saturday Night Stomp celebrates the start of their third year with a white party in February and this event shows no signs of stopping. “The event has been great for the Las Vegas Lindy Hop community,” says Kyle Kettner. “Every month, we have dancers who travel from St. George, Utah, and Death Valley, we’ve also seen a larger number of people who are new to swing dancing stop by.”
Sailor Jerry’s Swinging Tuesdays is a new venue this year and offers dancers the opportunity to groove to live bands inside the Crossroads located inside the House of Blues. The restaurant is opened to the public and many have stayed after dinner to watch dancers and hear great music from local bands.
The Thunderbird Lounge at the Aruba Hotel and Spa has been part of the historic landscape for over 50 years. Located at Las Vegas Boulevard just South of Charleston Boulevard, the Thunderbird Lounge is open 24 hours and features a mix of live entertainment, gaming action, and nostalgia that made Las Vegas famous.
